FREE Madeira, founded in 2022, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering individuals and businesses to take control of their financial future through education and Bitcoin adoption in Portugal, particularly in Madeira.
Who we are

We promote local Bitcoin Education
We support Bitcoin adoption in Portugal, particularly in the Madeira Archipelago
We assist the local community, both individuals and companies, during this monetary transition
We position the Madeira Archipelago as a technology leader, attracting local and international investment
We support energy sustainability by contributing to local mining projects based on sustainable energy
Donations
We believe that knowledge is the catalyst for change, and by providing the tools of monetary education to all, we forge a path to economic empowerment and resilience.
All donations to the Project go towards education, outreach and spreading knowledge about Bitcoin in the local community.
The future shines bright and orange, just like the sun over Madeira. Embracing Bitcoin will ensure that Madeirans will be able to bask in its rays for generations to come.

Increasing financial literacy and knowledge of new decentralised network protocols

Energy
We support Bitcoin projects for energy sustainability in Portugal, focusing on education and mentorship to foster local initiatives and expand renewable energy use.
Meetups
Every last Wednesday of the month FREE holds a Bitcoin Meetup, bringing the community together to share knowledge, network and enjoy presentations by select guest speakers.
Bitcoin Business Hub
A Bitcoin what? Yes, a Bitcoin Business Hub. We will have a pub, an all-Bitcoin shop, a coworking space, and more. A dream in the making!

Organisation details
FREE Madeira is a non-profit association registered in Portugal. Our purpose is economic education: we teach monetary literacy to children and adults, publish and translate books and educational materials, carry out research in the social sciences, and organise public meetings, courses and conferences. Bitcoin is our practical focus — the tool we teach with and the one we help local businesses adopt — within that wider mission of economic education. The association is independent of any political or religious affiliation.
